Nuclues Research has announced that it has awarded M-Files as the highest leader in its Research Content Management Value Matrix Report 2020. This is the seventh consecutive year that M-Files has achieved Leader status, as it further distances itself from the competition as a leader in content management. This year, M-Files received the highest recognition for both usability and functionality of the platform.

Entire ECM software market under the microscope
Nucleus Research assesses content management software providers on two core criteria: usability and functionality. This is determined through the analysis of end-user interviews and in-depth research by Nuclues Research itself. The 2020 report contains ratings of 17 vendors and places them in quadrants Leaders, Experts, Facilitators and Core Providers.
Unique innovations set a market standard
"This year's M-Files Leader accolade was driven by new innovations that confirm the platform's unique features and distinctiveness in the market," said Barbara Peck, principal analyst, Nucleus Research. "The visionary metadata-based, system-neutral and AI-driven platform sets the standard for content management. The latest developments in M-Files ensure that metadata and artificial intelligence are used to extract and index data and identify business-critical content. In addition, new innovations are also rooted in M-Files' open architecture that optimally supports connectivity with other systems and repositories."
Distinctive functionality in information management
The report applauds M-Files for several unique features:
- Smart Metadata: a tool that automatically learns to extract information from documents for better search and indexing.
- M-Files Discovery: a new technique that identifies business-critical documents in M-Files or a connected external repository based on PII data extraction and document classification.
- M-Files Ground Link: a solution that enables a secure and highly reliable connection from M-Files Cloud to customers' on-premises data repositories (such as network drives).
Successive years of innovation are rewarded
"We are very pleased to be recognised as a frontrunner in the content management industry this year, having achieved the highest level of usability and functionality among all the leaders in the Nucleus Research Value Matrix report," said Antti Nivala, founder and CEO of M-Files. "We are very proud of the confirmation of our visionary approach and unique solution that offers the same licence for on-premises and cloud deployments, removing financial obstacles and allowing companies to gradually move to the cloud."
M-Files garners appreciation for its broad foundation of functionalities
As a leader, M-Files was recognised by Nucleus Research for data security features including access control and permissions, automated audit trails, federated authentication, file encryption in transit and at rest, intrusion detection and data loss prevention. M-Files was also recognised for providing frequent, automatic system updates to customers who do not require additional IT department support.
