I would like to share 10 facts with you that you need to know about these disruptive developments in information management and why this means that the old approach to content and information management no longer works.
The digital transformation journey
Every organisation is (or should be) working on digital transformation. The core of this transformation process is to understand, anticipate and redefine internal and external customer situations and experiences. AIIM, the global organisation that researches the market of information management on an ongoing basis, has presented a number of significant results.
Fact 1: More than 53% of organisations “lives on the edge” in terms of a potentially serious disruption in their business model.
Fact 2: 81% of organisations rates digital transformation as important or very important to their organisation.
Fact 3: Just 18 months away from 2020, less than 1 in 5 organisations are close to the central transformation-challenge of “understanding, anticipating and redefining internal and external customers’ experiences”.
Digital transformation effectiveness
The effectiveness of digital transformation is endangered by increasing information chaos and confusion. Employees are losing more and more time searching for information or for the correct version of information.
Fact 4: Despite major improvements in information management capacities over the past 10 years, organisations only marginally respond to the new developments that belong to the “Big Content”.
Fact 5: The average number of content systems and solutions that an organisation uses, continues to rise. Over the last five years, the average number of systems has grown by almost 30%.
Fact 6: Although most organisations keep increasing the number of content systems they use, an increasing proportion of their critical business content (54%) is left out of these systems.
Demand for new information management applications

Organisations need to transform and a modern approach to information management must play a central role in this. There is no doubt that when organisations do not intend to pursue intelligent information management, one can only hope that they will eventually continue to survive.
