M-Files embraces Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning

The world of content management is about to undergo a fundamental shift due to artificial intelligence and machine learning. Those two factors will soon yield the long-sought order in business information. To anticipate this, M-Files has acquired Canadian company Apprento, embracing far-reaching technologies of the future.

As the volume of content has grown, the ability to manage it all seems to have eluded us. Quite ironic, given that Content Management Systems were supposed to solve that problem around business information.

The paradox is that the more content you collect, the harder it is to manage. AI and machine learning have the power to change that, because machine learning algorithms actually work better with more data, and that has the potential to fundamentally change how we think about managing content. And that is exactly something Apprento is good at.

Automatically read information from content

Apprento technology automatically pulls information from text into unstructured content, which streamlines the process of classifying, processing and securing business information while providing contextual insights about related content and workflows. The Apprento Business Context Engine features patent-pending technology that uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Understanding (NLU) to understand both semantics and concepts in content and communication systems.

M-Files' acquisition of Apprento, along with its recently announced partnership with ABBYY, a global provider of innovative language and artificial intelligence technologies, illustrates the company's focus on automating and simplifying the way business professionals manage information and related processes.

Intelligent approach ECM

"Business leaders, industry analysts and others who follow our industry all agree that traditional approaches and solutions for managing information are inadequate and that a new and more intelligent approach is needed," said Miika Mäkitalo, CEO at M-Files. "Our acquisition of Apprento combined with our recent partnership with ABBYY helps us deal intelligently with the vast amount of unstructured business content."

"By integrating the Apprento Business Context Engine into the M-Files platform, we are delivering powerful artificial intelligence capabilities to current M-Files users and laying the foundation for the introduction of many more AI enhancements and tools in the near future," said Trevor Cookson, CEO at Apprento. I am honoured to join the forward-thinking M-Files team and look forward to working with them to simplify and improve the way people interact with information ".
